“It’s Always Easier and Cheaper in the Long Run to Just Do It Right In the First Place”

Growing up, there was a grandfatherly fellow in our town that adopted all of us as kids as his own.  He would watch us, comment on how we’ve grown, ask us about our family, and often, share a bit of his wisdom.

He had a saying and a story for everything.  I mean everything.

If your hand itched he would say that meant money was coming your way. If you found a penny face up on the sidewalk, it was good luck.  If he saw a certain bird in the area, he told us that meant spring was on its way.

I always remember those sayings as I come across similar things in my life now and the events that promoted him to say it in the first place.

One time, there was a huge pothole in the street in the middle to town.  The road crew would come out and throw some dirt in it and a little asphalt and they would be gone.  After a few months, the hole was back and it was usually much bigger.

They would come back out with their trucks and shovels, throw some more dirt in the hole and lay a little more asphalt.  And once again, they were gone.

My wise mentor would watch each time the crew was out.  He would walk over to them as they worked and strike up a conversation about that pothole and offer his advice on the situation.

The road crew was there so often, they got to know my friend well.  And they would cringe as he walked up because they knew he was about to share his opinion with them if they wanted it or not.

He would ask them why they were there, even though it was obvious, and they would answer.  He would remind them it had only been a few months since they were there doing the same exact thing.  The supervisor would shrug and agree as the old gentlemen continued on.

“Now, don’t you think if you fixed it right, you could save yourself a lot of time and grief”, he said.

“Yeah, but the city wants us to save money so we can only do a patch”, the supervisor replied.

“Well seems to me, you have been here 4 times this year alone.  And you know you will have to be back here in a couple months again.  How can having 3 men waste their time doing the same thing over and over, be saving the city, and the taxpayers for that matter, any money?  Seems to be, It’s Always Easier and Cheaper in the Long Run to Just Do It Right In the First Place.”

I think about his words often.  As a dentist, when I see a patient suffering with a dental problem unnecessarily, it reminds me of the pothole.

Patients rely on me to give them my best treatment. They rely on me to fix it right the first time. And they want me to save them time, energy, as well as money in the long run.  That is my role as their dentist.

For patients who are missing teeth, that is why I recommend dental implants.  Not only do they replace the teeth, but they also stabilize the bite, provide a strong anchor of support for chewing, as well as give the patient back confidence and comfort that they won’t get with any other option.    Dental implants restore so much to a person’s quality of life; it is difficult to even put a figure on it.

Dental implants are the best option for tooth replacement.  It is a wonderful service that we enjoy providing for our VIPs (Very Important Patients!).  And just like my ‘adopted grandfather’, we always have room at our dental home for one more special person if you would like to join us here : http://implantdentistrygrovecity.com

Dental Implant Restorations - Are they Really Safe?

Because our society is so dependent on looking good, more and more people want to restore their mouths and smiles to their picture perfect ways. Many people like to use dental implant restorations to achieve this goal - but are they really safe? Truthfully, if you have a dental implant surgeon or dental implant specialist who takes his or her time with your dental implant restorations - then yes, they are really safe. But often time’s patients come in wanting to get all of their teeth replaced with dental implants now and there are some dentists who try to oblige them and end up hurting their patients in the process.

This is because dental implants require a lot of surgery and a lot of healing and it is always a good practice to only implant a handful of dental implants each time the patient visits the dental implant specialist. Thus, your dental implant restoration can take almost a year to complete depending on the work you get done, but you will not have any of the complications that a rushed implant job will cause. Thus, if you are thinking about getting a dental implant restoration, realize that it will take time for you to heal and for you to achieve the smile of your dreams, but also remember that this waiting time is worth the lack of pain and suffering that you would other wise go through.

The Advantages of Dental Implant Systems

Do you know the advantages of dental implant systems? The advantages of dental implant systems over other tooth replacement systems are numerous. First, dental implant systems are much better than traditional dentures for replacing many missing teeth. Unlike dentures that wobble and make it impossible for the wearer to enjoy certain hard to eat foods, dental implants stay put and allow the wearer to enjoy all of his or her favorite foods and drinks without worrying about his or her teeth at all. Dental implants are also much better than dental bridges because they have their own support, unlike dental bridges, which are attached to the teeth around them — this means that dental implants can withstand a lot more pressure from chewing than dental bridges can.

Dental implants are small titanium rods or screws that are inserted into a person’s jaw where teeth used to be or should be. Once the person’s jaw and bone has healed and fused with the rods or screws, dental crowns are attached to the top portion of the implant. This means that the dental crown is rooted in the jaw like a regular tooth is — allowing the crown to handle as much pressure, if not more than, a regular tooth can. Dental implants are a wonderful tooth replacement option and are in fact the most popular choice for most cosmetic dentists today.

Regain the Closest Thing to the Look, Feel and Function of Your Natural Teeth with Dental Implants

Your smile is often the first thing people notice about you. Having damaged or missing teeth can affect how you feel about yourself and your self confidence. Luckily, with technological advancement, you can now regain the closest thing to the look, feel and function of your natural teeth with dental implants.

Dental implants help you get the closest thing to the look, feel and function of your natural teeth as they are basically artificial tooth roots made of titanium which are inserted into the jawbone and work as anchors to hold replacement teeth made of different material like ceramic or porcelain. This is in contrast to other prosthetics which are fixed onto the existing teeth.

By getting dental implants you can achieve the closest thing to the look, feel and function of your natural teeth since they are fixed directly into the jawbone. This way they are firmly embedded with little or no chance of coming loose. Titanium is used as the dental implants because it is one material that will fuse completely with the bone. Once the surgery for implantation is done, it takes about 3-6 months for the healing to take place. Once the healing is done, an artificial tooth is fitted onto it.

This artificial tooth can be made of materials like ceramic and porcelain such that they give you the look, feel and function of your natural tooth.

Dental implants give you the closest look, feel and function of your natural teeth and need the same dental care and maintenance.

Dental Crowns - Replacing Your Damaged Tooth

Dental crowns are probably the oldest technique used to repair or hide a damaged, decayed tooth. Dental crowns help in replacing your damaged tooth such that it prevents further damage.

As the name suggests, a dental crown is quite literally a cap which is fitted onto the tooth. Usually replacing your damaged tooth can be a tricky business, but with dental crowns the entire tooth doesn’t have to be replaced. Instead, part of the tooth is filed down for a better fit and the dental crown is fitted on top of it such that it hides any decay or blemishes or even breaks.

Dental crowns are available is lots of materials and the patient can choose which he or she wants. In earlier times a popular material for dental crowns was gold alloy which made your tooth look golden yellow. Today, however, people prefer to have ceramic or porcelain crowns which give a very natural and realistic appearance, such that it gets difficult to identify the crown.

Dental crowns are useful in replacing your damaged tooth in several instances. In case of tooth decay, a dental crown can help hide the damaged bit of the tooth as well as protecting it from further damage. Similarly dental crowns are useful in repairing chipped or cracked teeth.

Dental crowns are very handy but you have to remember that they only hide or camouflage the damage. They don’t stop tooth decay.

What is The Correct Age to Fix Dental Implants?

There is nothing like correct age to fix dental implants. Dental implants can be fixed at any age, so age is not the main factor for dental implant restoration. It is the overall health of a person and the quality of life that one enjoys that is important. In the 1950’s implants were designed for old patients who were left toothless. Of late, implants have been carried out on teenagers successfully.

When a tooth is lost congenitally or due to sport injuries age does not remain the deciding factor. A lost tooth needs to be replaced whether the person is old or young. So there is no correct age to fix dental implants.

To decide whether dental implants are right for you, you will have to go through the evaluation process by getting x-rays. This will help the dentist to ascertain the bone quality and quantity of the patient. So if a person is not in good health implants will not work on such people. Implants are also not advised to people who suffer from diabetics as it hampers the process of healing. Smokers also are not considered good candidates for dental implants. This is because pose a greater risk of getting gum disease and this in turn weakens the bone tissue and the gums which are very important for supporting implants.
